【Indications】
Treatment of essential hypertension.
Treatment of type 2 diabetic nephropathy in combination with hypertension.
【Usage and Dosage】
The usual recommended initial and maintenance dose is 150mg daily, and diet has no effect on dosing. In general, Irbesartan 150mg once daily provides better control of 24-hour blood pressure than 75mg. However, the initial dose of 75mg may be considered for certain special patients, especially those undergoing hemodialysis and those over 75 years of age.
In patients whose blood pressure is not effectively controlled with Irbesartan 150mg once daily, the dose of this product may be increased to 300mg or other antihypertensive medications may be added. In particular, the addition of diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide has been shown to have additive effects. In hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, the initial dose of treatment should be 150 mg once daily and incremented to 300 mg once daily as a better maintenance dose for the treatment of renal disease. Clinical studies have demonstrated that Irbesartan benefits the kidneys of hypertensive type 2 diabetic patients. In studies, Irbesartan was added to other antihypertensive medications when necessary to lower patients' blood pressure and achieve target values.
Kidney Injury：No dose adjustment of this product is necessary in patients with kidney injury, but a low initial dose (75 mg) may be considered in patients undergoing hemodialysis.
Blood Volume Insufficiency：Patients with blood volume and/or sodium deficiencies should be corrected prior to administration of this product.
Hepatic Impairment: No dose adjustment of this product is necessary in patients with mild to moderate hepatic impairment. There is no clinical experience with patients with severe hepatic impairment.
Elderly Patients：Although 75 mg may be considered as the starting dose in persons over 75 years of age, no dose adjustment is usually required in elderly patients.
Pediatric Population：The safety and efficacy of irbesartan for use in children 0-18 years of age have not been established. The available data do not allow a recommended dose to be given.
